Lady Felecia Townsend serves as the Director of Business Services at Florida International University since 1987. She has longstanding service at FIU, first as a student earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a minor in Psychology, and a master’s degree in Education Sports Management, both from Florida International University. She served as an athlete competing in Division II level women’s basketball, as an adjunct professor, and a professional executive for over thirty (33) years, Lady Felecia is a member of several professional organizations, one namely, National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS), where I currently serve on the Regional Board of Directors as Past President.
A native of Gadsden, Alabama, Lady Felecia is a life-long learner, who is passionate about sharing her gifts and making a difference in the lives of others, with focus on youth, the elderly, and the community at large. Currently she is actively involved in the lives of young people in the University setting, serving, collaborating, and mentoring through various activities. Some of these include, Resident Student Task Force (chair), Student Waste/Energy Conservation Committee, Hispanic Heritage Committee, Healthy Campus Task Force, FIU Gospel Choir (founder and advisor), Sigma Alpha Iota/Lambda Omicron Chapter (mentor/advisor), Holiday Celebration for Children (planner, host, emcee), and various others. Committed to community service and our youth, her past and present involvement and volunteer organizations include: Black Wealth Consortium (educating and building community), the Continental Societies Inc Greater Miami Chapter (serving youth in public/private schools), Miami Children’s Hospital Asthma Walk Program, Community Partnership for Homeless, Purdue Nursing Home, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (guest speaker for careers/reading programs) and Men and Women’s Prison Ministries.
In Lady Felecia's previous roles, she served as Assistant Director of Youth Ministries at Glendale Baptist Church for over 10 years where she instructed and nurtured children and youth in their Christian faith and in life experiences, through mentorship, study, team-building fellowship, and service and evangelism activities. At Glendale, she also served as Director of Youth and Children choirs as well as the directed the Arts & Entertainment (drama) activities, working hands-on to mold and bring out the skills and gifts hidden within each child. There, Lady Felecia also chaired the Youth Council that consisted of youth and adults who provided input and assistance in the programmatic activities, budgeting, and planning for the youth programs. Lady Felecia also served in similar roles at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church for approximately 9 years where she instituted and assisted in the planning of many new programs and activities to enhance the youth's education and knowledge, including various youth conferences, college road trips, competitions, and other fun educational growth components. She served as Director of Outreach and Evangelism and Director of Music/Drama Ministry at City of Refuge Church for 3 years.
Lady Felecia has always been actively fulfilling her passion of working with teens. The Top Teens of America program has rejuvenated her energy level even more as she works with some of the brightest and driven Teens in the South Dade area. Along with the Top Teens, Lady Felecia enjoys working alongside the awesome Service to Youth Advisor Team, who exhibits the same passion for impacting youth. Many of these Ladies serve as teachers, principles, police officers, business owners and various other positions of leadership and service.
